"I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Matthew Rice,
an Easthampton resident whose untimely passing has left our community heartbroken.
Matt’s 30 years of dedicated service as a Special Police Officer with our neighbors at the
Northampton Police Department exemplified his commitment to the safety and well-being
of our region. His legacy of service will be remembered with gratitude. I urge our community
to come together in support of one another, honoring Matt’s memory by refraining from
rumors or speculation. Let us allow the Vermont State Police and relevant authorities to
complete their investigation with diligence and care."
